REPORT: Will expatriates practice their right to vote?

Expatriates will practice their right to vote in the 2013 parliamentary elections, but practically the law has not yet been passed.

Politicians estimate that the number of Lebanese expatriates reaches millions; however practically, the list presented by the Foreign Ministry shows that only 3009 people from the Lebanese communities abroad have registered their names to vote in the elections. It is noteworthy that the deadline for registration ends on December 31, 2012.

The number of registered people is considered very poor in some countries, such as Sydney where only one person registered his name and Montreal where no one did.

In this context, the number of voters reached 4.6 million Lebanese, residents and expatriates, among which 38% are Christians and 62%, are Muslims.
