Sheikh Abdel Razzak al Asmar's funeral held in Tripoli
A funeral was held on Saturday for Sheikh Abdel Razzak al Asmar who was killed in Friday’s clashes near Unification Movement Headquarters in Tripoli’s Abu Samra area.

Hundreds of gunmen roamed the city of Tripoli on Saturday at a time when tensions prevailed in the regions of Akkar where al-Abdeh road was cut off in protest of the assassination of General Wissam Hassan.

The roads in al-Bireh, Mounjez, Koucha, al-Haysa, al-Aarida, Halba and al-Abdeh were blocked amid the closure of public and commercial institutions.

Fierce clashes broke out overnight in Tripoli’s area of Abi Samra between members of the Islamic Unification Movement and an Islamic group, killing Sheikh Abdul Razzak al-Asmar. LAF troops intervened immediately and restored calm.

It is noteworthy that the city’s streets are open and passable while the Tripoli-Akkar Street is still cut-off in the city of al-Beddawi.

In a similar context, the Governor of North Lebanon, Nassif Kalouch, chaired a meeting for the North Lebanon Security Council at Tripoli’s Serail to discuss the security measures taken to protect civil peace and stability and to prevent anyone from using this explosion to sow discord among the Lebanese. Participants took a series of decisions that will be followed up by the different apparatuses.
