REPORT: Syrian town of Katna bids farewell to Father Fadi Haddad

Following Father Bassilios Nassar who was killed while trying to save an injured person in Hama a month ago, the town of Katna in Damascus Reef bade farewell to Father Fadi Haddad, the Minister of the St. Elias Greek Orthodox Church.      

The 34-year-old father was trying to collect a ransom to liberate two members of his parish. He consequently contacted the abductors, but they kidnapped him. His body was later found in the town of Drousha, located 12 kilometers away from his hometown.  

The Syrian state TV accused armed terrorist groups of killing the priest via a bullet in the head, the opposition published pictures of Father Haddad at the forefront of a rally calling for freedom in his town of Katna, along with figures from other sects.       

In this regard, the spokesperson for the Syrian National Council Georges Saba accused the regime’s mercenaries of killing father Haddad to instigate civil strife in Katna.
