Illegal apartments collapse onto busy supermarket in Argentina

A search for bodies was still under way in Argentina on Friday following the collapse of an illegal apartment building onto a packed supermarket, crushing the roof and trapping dozens of shoppers inside.

Authorities in the southern city of Neuquen say the final death toll is: 7 dead and 17 injured.

Three truckloads of wreckage have been removed from the site, but it was still too dangerous  to get inside the collapsed structure on Friday.

One survivor described how the roof folded "like a fan" after the apartments being built illegally next door toppled over and broke a roof beam.

Neuquen is located 1,150 kilometres (around 714 miles) south of the capital, Buenos Aires.

Three days of mourning were declared as families of the missing waited for news of their loved ones at the scene.
