Souaid to LBCI: We will not waiver until we topple the gvt

The Coordinator of the March 14 General Secretariat Fares Souaid announced on Sunday that Lebanon has entered a new phase after the assassination of Major General Wissam Hassan, considering that the assassination sought to change the political status quo.

Souaid told Nharkom Said that the government of PM Najib Mikati must resign “since it has become part of the Syrian-Iranian axis.”

“March 14 will not waiver until it topples the government; the cabinet's resignation would ease tensions and pave the way for a new government that would be based on the Baabda Declaration and would guarantee stability for the Lebanese”, he said.

Souaid stressed that President Michel Sleiman can play a pivotal role in this regard, “since he is the only one with the power to save Lebanon.”

Souaid strongly rejected the saying that if the current government is toppled, Lebanon will be thrown into the unknown.

“Despite President Sleiman’s previous stances which we praised, now we feel that he is failing to contain the repercussions of Hassan’s assassination”, Souaid said, considering that the president has the prerogative to impose his point of view.

In this regard, Souaid accused Syria of killing Maj. Gen. Wissam Hassan in collaboration with local forces, adding "Hezbollah may be involved."

“The status quo cannot remain unchanged, thus the need to form a new government”, he concluded.
