Ghosn from Grand Serail: We reject tax increases

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with a delegation from the Trade Union, headed by Ghassan Ghosn, to discuss the possibility of retired people (over the age of 64) profiting from the social security benefits by paying the subscription fees instead of their former employer.

Ghosn stressed that he discussed with Mikati the issue of the dialogue and presented documents, albeit incomplete, pertaining to the Trade Union and the economic committees.

Commenting on the taxes issue, Ghosn noted that this issue is fundamental and among the priorities of the General Labor Confederation which rejects the increase of the fees and indirect taxes.

Ghosn explained that the incomplete points in the Trade Union’s documents concern the index committee assigned with detecting inflation rates during regular annual meetings held between the GLC, the economic committees and the Labor Ministry.

He pointed that these rates have increased and reached 10.3% according to the index of central statistics, which requires a reconsideration and correction of salaries according to the rules agreed upon.
