PSP Media Commissioner denies phone call between Jumblatt and Khaddam

The Progressive Socialist Party’s Media Commissioner announced that the news published in a Lebanese newspaper today on a phone call between PSP leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Syrian former vice-president Abdel Halim Khaddam is “unfounded”, stressing that contacts with Khaddam are neither suspended nor held in secret.     

The Commissioner considered that the article reflects no more than the “fertile and creative imagination of its writer.” 

On reports depicting a phone call held between Hezbollah Liaison and Coordination official, Hajj Wafik Safa and the head of the PSP Walid Jumblatt, the statement added that it did happen and Safa conveyed the message of Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to Jumblatt, congratulating him on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. In turn, Jumblatt passed on his well wishes to Nasrallah through Hajj Safa.   

Al-Akhbar Newspaper had published an account Friday on an alleged phonecall between PSP leader MP Walid Jumblatt and former Syrian vice President Abdel Halim Khaddam.     

The Daily quoted well-informed sources as saying that Khaddam asked Jumblatt about the reasons of the latter’s pessimism towards the Syrian developments, to which Jumblatt replied that “he is not pessimist, but the facts show that the Western States and the International Community gave up on Syria, even Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who now believe that every one will fall before Assad does.”
