REPORT: US elections a 'summer cloud which passed over Israel'

Anxiety and confusion prevail over the Israeli government following the election of Barak Obama for a second mandate in the US presidential elections.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had gambled on Mitt Romney’s victory, like an adventurous gambler, while a number of opposition politicians do not hide their fear regarding the fact that this may harm Israel.

In an attempt to reestablish good relations with Obama, Netanyahu rushed in silencing his deputies and ministers who expressed their bitterness and disappointment in the American voter’s decision. He also held an urgent meeting with the US ambassador to Tel Aviv where they discussed the importance of strategic relations between both countries.

For his part, the Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak stressed the possibility to bridge the gap between the two countries.
