REPORT: Latest developments in investigations into Achrafieh explosion

Sources told LBCI that one of the perpetrators in the Achrafieh explosion that targeted Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan parked the car containing the bombs on Ibrahim Mounzer Street, leaving disguised with hat on his head.

Security sources reported that the detectives have not been able to identify the individual in question, adding that they are working on other photos that may lead to more information. The sources denied the fact that the detectives may have interrogated a journalist whose name circulated in this case.

The Information Branch earlier finished scanning the crime scene, filling the hole caused by the explosion. This as detectives await for the technical report which is being prepared by the FBI team.

Accordingly, the General Prosecutor Hatem Madi issued an order to reopen the street for citizens to pass.

However, in order to bring back normality to the street, the damaged cars and the building ruins caused by the explosion must be removed.

In this context, young men and women of the Association for Volunteer Services "Farah al-Ataa" clear the street, while Beirut's Municipality supplies the area with limited lighting in order to start the reconstruction of the infrastructure.

These operations could last days before the street could be opened for traffic.

[On Friday October 19 a massive blast rocked through a crowded Achrafieh street leaving Maj. Gen. Wissam Hassan, companion Sergeant Ahmad Sahyouni and citizen Georgette Sarkissian dead. The explosion left several residents of the area homeless due to the extremity of the damage sustained in the area.]
