Pope receives Hariri in the Vatican

The media office of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri declared on Wednesday that Pope Benedict XVI received Hariri in a private meeting at the Vatican in the presence of the Lebanese ambassador George Khoury, the director of Hariri's media office Nader Hariri and the advisor Daoud al-Sayegh.

On the onset of the meeting, Hariri thanked the Pope for his Lebanon visit, regretting not being able to be present throughout the trip for having been abroad at the time. He expressed appreciation for the Pope's support for Lebanon and its representation as an example for coexistence in the region.

During the meeting, both parties discussed the region's situation in general and Syria's developments in particular, and stressed the need to deploy all possible efforts in order to restore peace in the region.
