Mikati and Hollande hold talks at the Elysse Palace

PM Najib Mikati met with the French President Francois Hollande at the Elysee Palace on Wednesday. The two held talks in the presence of the Lebanese delegation.

After the meeting, Hollande lauded the self-distancing policy from the Syrian crisis, the Lebanese cabinet is currently following.

Earlier from Paris, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed that Lebanon would not be the field for proxy wars, calling for a solution to deflate tension on the internal scene; “a solution which may come to represent a governmental change.” He reiterated that dialogue is the only way to safeguard the country.

This as Mikati will meet with Arab ambassadors in Paris and make a speech during his meeting with the Lebanese diaspora.

Days earlier, Mikati had arrived to France whereby he met with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Tuesday. The two discussed the latest events in Syria and the situation in Gaza.

In this context, Mikati asked Fabius to provide aid to the 130,000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon, stressing that Lebanon is no longer capable of "helping them."

For his part, Fabius promised that his country will help Lebanon in the Syrian refugees issue.

On the Lebanese crisis, Fabius called on parties to seek dialogue in solving their differences, emphasizing that France supports the cabinet's self-distancing policy.
