Shiite Muslims mark the 10th day of Muharram, Ashura

Like every year, millions of Shiites flooded the Iraqi shrine city of Karbala to participate in Ashura commemorations, but this year, the commemoration was amid security measures fearing any attacks on pilgrims.

As for Pakistan, a bomb attack on a Shiite Muslim procession in the city of Dera Ismail killed five mourners and wounded more than 50 in northwest Pakistan on Sunday as Shiites marked their holiest day Ashura.

In Yemen, at least three Shi'ite Muslims were killed and 7 others were wounded in a bomb attack that targeted the first public commemoration of Ashura in the Yemeni capital in half a century.
