Rai: Officials should seek to secure Lebanon's best interest

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rai voiced his pleas on Monday asking politicians to transcend their disputes in order to secure the interest of citizens.

Rai criticized the actions of politicians at a time when crisis is prevailing in Middle Eastern countries and specifically in Syria and added that the Lebanese agricultural and industrial products seem to remain inside the country.

"We respect politicians for their political action and stances, but we feel sorry that their disputes are disrupting the country," he said.

Earlier, Rai discussed the situation in Syria and the region with a delegation of Syrian Bishops, clerics, and religious scholars accompanied by the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali.

Rai also met with Deputy Michel Murr who headed a delegation of Metn's heads of municipalities.
