REPORT: Sea turtle rescued off the Beirut shore

A Civil Defense maritime rescue unit went on a risky mission to save a sea turtle amid high waves and extreme weather off the Beirut port. The team responded to the call of a citizen who reported a rope entangled sea turtle seen struggling at the bottom of the sea.

Divers tried hard to untie the ropes which almost killed an animal considered as one of the endangered species on the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea. Sea turtles in particular are known for their environmental benefits and play an integral part in marine ecosystems.

This unique environmental mission was successful and the sea turtle was freed amid cheers of joy.
