Pope calls for supporting persecuted Christians in the world

In the wake of an attack on a church in northern Nigeria during Christmas Eve midnight mass, Pope Benedict XVI called for supporting and encouraging the persecuted Christians of the world.         

The Pope’s message was delivered during the celebration of St. Stefanus holiday.      

The pope addressed a group of believers saying: “May the intercession of St. Stefanus, who was faithful to Christ until his death, support the persecuted Christians and may our prayers encourage them."
