Aoun: The electoral law issue is related to political rights

The media office of the head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun responded to statements made by President Michel Sleiman regarding the electoral law on the onset of today's cabinet session, whereby the president stressed his commitment to a Christian consensus on an electoral law, adding that he is to be held liable should he overturn national consent.

In this context, Aoun explained that the issue of the electoral law should not be undermined since it is a case of political rights stipulated in the Constitution, and the electoral law is the practical application which gives these rights to their “owners.” He stressed that the political rights approach is subject to legal and constitutional texts.
