Aoun: We will vote only for of the Orthodox Gathering’s electoral draft law

Head of Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun said on Saturday that they are set to refer the Orthodox electoral draft law to the joint parliamentary committees, noting that all the other proposals include circumventions for personal interests.

In an interview with Mada radio station, Aoun said that the Orthodox draft law ensures fairness between confessions and does not waste any vote, stressing that “he will not vote for any electoral proposal other than the Orthodox Gathering’s draft law”.

In this context, Aoun said that "he does not want to hear anything related to the majoritarian system", adding that “no one has the right to boycott the elections.” He declared that he will reject any law other than the Orthodox law, noting that there is no need to postpone the elections, since the cabinet can rule by issuing legislative decrees, and has the right to take power in case of parliamentary void, as he said.

On the other hand, Aoun stressed that Bkerke performed an advisory role by uniting the Christians and leading them to agree on an electoral law, noting that the visit made by the Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai to Syria was not political.

On the book “Al-Ibra' Al Mustahil” (Impossible Exoneration), Aoun said that it leads to two results, legal and political, since there are violations that result in prison sentence or expulsion of politicians from their positions.

“We demand that those who have committed severe mistakes, like corruption, fraud, negligence and wasted funds, while in power be held accountable for their actions,” Aoun said, adding that all the breaches will be revealed by investigations, since thousands of documents proving such actions are available.

“No one can blackmail us, the judiciary must take action immediately following the release of the [afore mentioned] book which sheds the light on several crimes, “Aoun stated.
