Syrian opposition urges US to fulfill its duties

The Syrian National Coalition called on the U.S. Saturday to fulfill its obligations to establish a democracy in Syria, following its decision to suspend visits due to Washington and Moscow and its participation in an international conference held in Roma in support of the opposition.           

The Coalition urged all the peoples of the world to consider the week extending from March 15 to March 22 which marks the second anniversary of the launching of the Syrian revolution, as a week of mourning and protests all around the world.        

In turn, the spokesperson for the coalition Walid al-Bunni told Arab-speaking channel France 24 that the international community cannot remain idle in the face of Syria’s violence.         


On the field         

Violence continued across Syrian cities on Saturday at a time when SANA reported that pro-regime troops carried out military operations against terrorists in Idlib Reef, around Wadi al-Dayf and other towns and in Homs Reef.     

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that150 Kurdish female volunteers  formed their first battalion in Aleppo 

This announcement was made days after fights between opposition fighters and Kurdish rebels in Ras al-Ain city.

This city had been witnessing tensions during the past three months in a bid to reach an agreement between both parties through the mediation of the Christian opposition figure Michel Kilo.

Meanwhile, the battle for Syria's second-largest airport intensified on Saturday as regime troops tried to reverse rebels' strategic gains in the northeast recently.              

Rebels have been trying for months to capture Aleppo's international airport.       

Rami Abdul-Rahman, director of the Britain-based activist group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the fighting is now concentrated around a section of a highway that connects the city with the airport.       

The rebels have cut off the highway the army has been using to transport troops and supplies to a military base within the airport complex. The airport east of the city is part of a complex that includes a smaller military airfield and the base.       

Rebels have made significant advances in the battle for the complex in the past weeks after capturing two army bases along the road to the airport.
