Gharib: Retirees’ rights are a red line

Head of Union Coordination Committee Hanna Gharib reiterated on Wednesday that Union is holding on the demands of the people regarding the ranks and salaries series, warning against the modification of the wage hike and the rights of the retirees.

“The retirees’ rights are a red line,” he stressed.

During the sit-in staged by the UCC outside the Ministry of Energy and Water in Cornish al-Naher, Gharib called on parents to gather at all educational institutions next Monday.

In this context, Gharib also called on all parliamentary, political, syndicate and students’ blocs to join the movement expected to be held tomorrow [Thursday] at the UNESCO Palace on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.

The Union Coordinating Committee launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated called on Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
