Shadi al-Mawlawi responds to Judge Saqr's charges

The State Commissioner to the Military Court, Judge Saqr Saqr filed on Friday a lawsuit against 10 persons including Shadi al-Mawlawi on charges of affiliation with armed groups and the Al-Nusra Front.

In this regard, Judge Saqr accused al-Mawlawi of perpetrating terrorist acts as well as arms smuggling between Lebanon and Syria, and referred the case to First Military Investigative Judge Riyad Abou Ghaida.

It is noteworthy that one of the accused charged by Judge Saqr identified as Ali Amin Khaled confessed that the group works in coordination with Osama el-Chahabi in Ain el-Helwe, sources told LBCI.

In a phone call with LBCI, Shadi al-Mawlawi said that the security apparatus knows all his movements, stressing that he does not trust the Lebanese courts and that new charges against him are "useless".

Prime Minister Najib Mikati also commented on this issue saying that the military court ordered to free al-Mawlawi and "we must all respect the military court orders."

Al-Mawlawi was briefly detained in May 2012 over links with terrorist organizations alongside a Jordanian citizen suspected of being an Al-Qaeda member. His release sparked outrage in the country.
