MP Aoun condemns attack against clerics, says Lebanon is facing a conspiracy

Head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun condemned on Tuesday the attack which targeted four Sunni clerics on Sunday night in Khandak al-Ghamik and Shayah, urging the judiciary to speed-up the investigations to finalize the case.             

Following the bloc’s weekly meeting, Aoun hailed the position launched by Mufti Mohammad Rachid Qabbani concerning the attack, noting that a delegation from the Change and Reform bloc will be visiting Dar al-Fatwa soon.           

On the other hand, Aoun pointed out that the way Christians’ rights are being dealt with has become offensive, rejecting any manipulation targeting Christian representation at Parliament.         

On the electoral law, the MP stressed that the Orthodox Gathering electoral law is as constitutional as the law based on one electoral district, noting that a plot is being prepared by some parties to push Lebanon into void and chaos.               

“One MP claimed that the Orthodox law is sectarian, while overlooking the fact that the distribution of power among the president, prime minister, and speaker in Lebanon is based on sects,” Aoun added, stating that a Christian MP must be elected by Christian voters so that he can represent his sect; otherwise an 'error' would be committed.                 

On another note, Aoun congratulated the Christian community on the election of the new Pope Francis.
