New suspect arrested on charges of attacking Sunni clerics
      
A new suspect was arrested on Thursday on charges of perpetrating attacks against Sunni clerics in the area of al-Khandak al-Ghamik, bringing the total number of suspects to 8 the state run National News Agency reported.                    

In this context, a number of officials headed to Dar al-Fatwa to condemn the attack, including Archbishop of Beirut, Bishop Boulos Matar, representing Maronite Patriarch Beshara Boutros Rai, Minister Nicolas Sehnaoui heading a delegation from the Free Patriotic Movement, and a delegation of national parties.

Two sheikhs from Dar al-Fatwa, Mazen Hariri and Ahmad Fakhran were attacked on Sunday, in the region of al-Khandak al-Ghamik, while they were heading to Mohammad al-Amin Mosque.       

The sheikhs were immediately taken to al-Makassed hospital for treatment.     

The attack was not only limited to the 2 Sheikh in al-Khandak al-Ghamik; reports said that 2 other clerics were attacked in the Shiyah area.        

They were identified as Sheikh Omar Imami and Shiekh Ibrahim Abdul Latif. They were transported to the Shtoura hospital after receiving first aid treatment in Beirut.
