Sleiman: We should prevent Lebanon from falling victim to surrounding conflicts

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman hoped on Saturday for “a true resurrection”, peace and an end of violence, mainly in Syria, for the refugees to be able to return home.

In his Easter message to the Orthodox Christian community, Sleiman stressed the need to commit to the Baabda Declaration and to abstain from sending arms and militants to Syria, in order to preserve civil peace and stability and to prevent Lebanon from falling victim to conflicts raging in the surrounding countries.

In this context, Sleiman called on the international community to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability, so that the country could serve as an example for coexistence and democracy aspired by the Arab peoples.
