REPORT: UCC resumes symbolic protests

The Union Coordination Committee (UCC) staged on Thursday a sit-in to call for the referral of the ranks and salaries series to the Parliament, and to urge the officials to find a solution for the wars being transferred from the region into the Lebanese territory.               

During its symbolic sit-in, the UCC called on the Lebanese government to extend its authority over the Lebanese state, holding the politicians responsible for the current situation in Lebanon.                 

In this context, the head of the UCC Hanna Gharib noted that caretaker Finance Minister Mohammad Safadi signed the draft law which still awaits to be referred to caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati who will in turn pass it to President Michel Sleiman who promised to sign it and refer it to the Parliament the soonest possible.

Cabinet referred on Thursday [March 21st] the wage scale to Parliament following weeks of nationwide protests .

 The Union Coordinating Committee had launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated called on Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
