Jumblatt: Syrian regime used “al-Nusra” to implement explosions

The head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt declared on Monday that, in order to avoid confusion and to prevent the publication of misleading reports on the al-Nusra Front in Syria, "one must remember that the said group was used as a pretext by the Syrian regime to implement acts of terror across several locations including Iraq."             

Jumblatt noted that the Syrian regime released several al-Nusra Front members from jail following the outbreak of the Syrian revolution, hinting at a possible connection between the two.                     

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa Newspaper, Jumblatt added that a number of rebels may have joined the al-Nusra Front due to the unprecedented international passiveness toward the Syrian crisis which has left hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of Syrian refugees, not to mention the tens of thousands of detainees and missing persons.         

The head of the NSF noted that “the confusion resulting from the logic of either ‘al-Nusra’, or the regime is only delaying the union of the opposition forces and extending the regime’s age.”                   

In this context, Jumblatt rejected reports stating that the war in Syria is being fought against the Takfirists, with disregard to the rightful demands of the Syrian people; holding the international community responsible for the current situation in Syria through its failure to reach a unified stance over the conflict.                           

On the Lebanese field, Jumblatt stressed the need for all Lebanese parties to assume their responsibilities, practically rather than theoretically, urging them to abstain from supporting the conflicting parties in Tripoli in order to avoid further bloodshed.
