Geagea: National dialogue is not a 'realistic step' at this stage

Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea said on Tuesday that Lebanese President Michel Sleiman along with Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam should control the current situation in Lebanon or else the country will be heading towards the abyss.              

In this regard, Geagea said that the ‘other party’ does not want to find a solution, but instead wants to gain the support of the population.       

Geagea added that an initiative based on national dialogue is not realistic at the mean time since it will not yield any fruitful results, pointing out that the Lebanese Forces will accept any decision issued by the Constitutional Council regarding the extension of the parliament’s mandate.            

Earlier on Tuesday, Geagea said that the political parties should have the responsibility of developing the Lebanese villages and towns, noting that the Lebanese Forces party is the most effective party in this regard amid the absence of the State.                          

During his meeting with a delegation from the town of Ana in Western Bekaa, Geagea pointed out that the Lebanese Forces are keen on helping the residents to remain in their towns, stressing that the government has to ensure stability and to activate the economy in order to guarantee large amounts of funds needed to implement developments projects in the rural regions in Lebanon.
