Lebanese Army's unit raids Tripoli's Jabal Mohsen

Lebanese Armed Forces raided on Tuesday Jabal Mohsen region and removed all barricades and armed appearances.

In this context, the media official of the Arab Democratic Party Abdul Latif Saleh hailed the LAF efforts, urging the deployment of LAF in Bab al-Tebbaneh region.

On another note, security sources denied the death of Internal Security Forces Adjutant Elie Sleiman, adding that he is in critical condition and receiving medical treatment

Earlier, a meeting was held  at MP Mohammad Kabbara's residence between MPs Khaled Daher and Mouiine el Merehbi, Sheikhs Salem al Rifaei and Nabil Rahim and several dignitaries.

Following the meeting, MP Kabbara urged residents of Jabal Mohsen to cease fire, warning that Tripoli "will defend itself" in case the clashes did not stop.

MP Kabbara accused President Michel Sleiman and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Jean Kahwagi  of being accomplices of the Syrian regime.

He also asserted that the escalatory steps will include Akkar and Donieh regions.

On another note, sniping operations continued in Tripoli’s conflict axis of Bab al-Tebbaneh, Jabal Mohsen, al-Bakkar, al-Rifa, al-Chaarani, Hariri Project, Harat al-Baranieh and Tripoli’s international highway which remains cut off due to the clashes.          

The death toll of the latest round of clashes in the northern city has risen to five, while the injuries reached 38.              

The Lebanese Armed Forces responded to the sources of fire while conducting patrols across the conflict areas in an attempt to control the situation.                

The traffic and pedestrian movement was reported to be weak, while the schools and universities close to the regions witnessing clashes closed their doors.                  

This as most shops, banks, universities, and schools in other streets opened their doors in a bid to push through the heavy economic losses entailed by the city.                  

The latest round of violence erupted in Tripoli on Sunday the 19th of May between Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tabbaneh leaving at least 30 persons killed, including 3 LAF members, and more than 300 others wounded.                         

Clashes between the two areas stretch back to decades, but the recent round of fighting was the heaviest.                                

On Sunday the 26th of May, clashes eased significantly, while sporadic gunshots were still heard occasionally as Lebanese Armed Forces deployed in al-Kobbeh and Rifa regions, and headed towards Syria Street.                                   

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.
