Harmouch to LBCI: Sunni sect is oppressed and disadvantaged

Member of the Political Bureau of the Islamic group, former MP Assaad Harmouch said on Wednesday that the movement of Sheikh Ahmad Assir is the result of a harsh reality witnessed by the Sunni Muslims in Lebanon.

Harmouch told LBCI’s Nharkom Said that those who were behind the May 7 events, Doha agreement, Arsal incidents and Hezbollah’s weapons are responsible for the creation of the “Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir phenomenon”, stressing that it is completely forbidden to attack the Lebanese Army.

“We support the Lebanese Army, but the latter must also be just,” Harmouch added.

In this context, Harmouch said that the Sunni sect has one project which is building a State, stressing that the Lebanese Sunnis are “oppressed and disadvantaged.”

However, he stated that the Sunnis in Lebanon do not have one leadership, calling on the Future Movement not to abandon its national responsibilities.
