Judge Oueidat issues indictment against HRC head Ibrahim Bashir, NSSF employees
Beirut Examining Magistrate Judge Ghassan Oueidat issued on Tuesday two indictments against the head of the Higher Relief Council (HRC) Ibrahim Bashir and his wife on charges of embezzlement.

Last November, Bashir was arrested along with his wife on the order of acting State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud for allegedly embezzling public funds

Bashir has denied the allegations, accusing some Lebanese sides of framing him in the case.

Bashir was appointed by former Prime Minister Najib Mikati in 2011 as head of the Higher Relief Council (HRC).

The HRC helps Lebanese people hit by natural and man-made disasters.

As well Judge Oueidat issued an indictment against Rabih Mohamad Qobeissi and Hicham Mahmoud al-Fayad for burning documents for the National Social Security Fund.

Last March, Lebanese police raided the National Social Security Fund in Beirut, seizing potentially incriminating documents linked to an ongoing embezzlement probe.

The raid came after authorities were alerted to a possible attempt to destroy NSSF documents that could be used in the embezzlement probe.
