Aoun: Hezbollah has no effect on Lebanon security reality

President Michel Aoun stated on Tuesday that Israel continues to occupy parts of Lebanon and Syria's territories, and that once liberated, a process of peace negotiations can begin in order to preserve rights.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Aoun added, "Resisting the occupation is not terrorism, and Hezbollah, which is made up of Lebanese and liberated south Lebanon from Israeli occupation, has no effect on the security reality in Lebanon.”

He stated that he seeks to implement more administrative decentralization in order to better apply the constitution. He also stated that justice will be served in the case of the Port of Beirut explosion.

Regarding aid, Aoun stated, "I am confident that the Pope will take the initiative to assist Lebanon, and Italy can assist the Lebanese parties in meeting and reaching an agreement.”

He also addressed the impact of the Ukrainian situation on Lebanon, saying, "The risks of the conflict in Ukraine are comprehensive, and the only solution is peace, and the best way would be through UN-led negotiations."
