Former Mythbusters host Grant Imahara traveled to a famous fast food chain's potato processing plant in Idaho to reveal the 14 ingredients contained in a humble fry. During his investigation he found that there are two rounds of frying. He also discovered that dimethylpolysiloxane - a form of silicone found in Silly Putty - is used in the making of frozen fries along with a petrol-based chemical called tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ). However, he reassures viewers that these are both safe additives used for perfectly good reasons. Similarly, a video uploaded on social media platforms by Facebook user Jose Raul Reyes, 24, from Mexico, showed the processed cheese being held in a naked flame and being blackened and charred, but not melting. Jose said it behaved more like plastic than cheese, and added that he posted it to warn people to think about what they were buying and eating. The video quickly notched up over one million views in the first few hours, attracting widespread comment from shocked viewers. The fuss over processed cheese began last year in the United States with a similar video of sliced cheese. It prompted the company to release their own YouTube video explaining why it does not melt at high temperatures.
