Mikati rails against corruption, presses on with appointments

PM Najib Mikati said that the principle of retribution cannot be implemented without justice and dignity. There should be no revenge, maliciousness or grudge holding, and any measure taken must be based on correct and accurate information.       

“The government will not protect those who facilitate continuing chaos in administrations and institutions”, Mikati said calling on the oversight bodies to fulfill all their obligations, especially that the officials in these administrations and institutions enjoy a certain degree of immunity enabling them to assume their role honestly and impartially.       

Mikati headed an extended meeting to review the state policies and agreements against corruption. In this meeting, Mikati said that corruption is not limited to public administrations, but is an integrated act between state institutions, its oversight, administrative and financial bodies, and those in charge of the productive sectors and civil bodies.      
“If political interventions conceal reality, I have promised the public, and you, and I reiterate today that the government will not provide cover for corrupt individuals.       

No official or employee is above the law no matter his rank or position, because when he fulfills his obligations, he does so by the rule of law and his power is drawn from the rule of law, not by his own personal status.      

Mikati said that the government will go on with the administrative appointments soon, adding “I hope that these appointments will fulfill the Lebanese people’s aspirations by appointing the competent, the experienced and the specialists in their fields”.     

“The appointments will take place away from quotas and favoritism, taking into account the requirements of national accord and the confessions’ rights”.
