Sheikh Assir: We are falling victim to repeated attacks in Sidon

Imam of Bilal bin Rabbah mosque Sheikh Ahmad Assir held on Wednesday a press conference whereby he reiterated his call to find a solution to the issue of extra state arms.
In this regard, Sheikh Assir said that he, along with his supporters, are falling victim of repeated attacks in the city of Sidon since they are considered as a “minority”.

Assir also stressed that Hezbollah's apartments in Abra became “heavily armed,” adding that Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel had called him and promised to settle the apartments' issue within 15 days.

In this context, Assir said that “the Lebanese Armed Forces deployed in the region are protecting Hezbollah’s apartments,” adding that he wants a “Lebanese army” that works for the interest of all the Lebanese people.

On another note, Sheikh Assir accused the assailants of stealing over 1 Million USD from the residence of former singer Fadel Shaker, pointing out that there are three choices: the mosque should be moved, which is impossible, the apartments should be closed or the situation will remain the same.

Heavy clashes erupted Tuesday [18 June] between unknown gunmen and followers of a radical Sunni cleric Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir in south Lebanon, security officials said, killing one person in the latest apparent outbreak of violence between Lebanese factions supporting opposing sides in the civil war in neighboring Syria.

This as Ahmad Hariri, an official at Assir’s media office said that armed men broke into former singer Fadel Shaker’s residence in Sidon. In return Hezbollah's al-Manar station denied claims stating that Assir's gunmen had taken over the party's apartments in the region of Abra.
In this context, Sheikh Assir told LBCI that the deadline for the eviction of the Hezbollah apartments in the Abra region has been set for Monday
