LAF reopen all roads in Central Bekaa

The Lebanese Armed Forces re-opened on Friday morning all roads in Central Bekaa, mainly in Saadnayel, Qob Elias and al-Bahsasa following the tension that prevailed over the region yesterday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

One person was killed and five others were wounded on Thursday as protesters cut-off several roads in the North, the Bekaa and Beirut to express their solidarity with the town of Arsal.

This as protesters also blocked with burning tires the al-Fayda-Zahle road on the outskirts of Saadnayel. Four persons were injured while the LAF tried to re-open the said road.

Earlier, the LAF heavily deployed in the areas of al-Labweh and Arsal after residents of both towns exchanged gunfire.

The military deployed after gunmen from the Sunni town of Arsal opened fire on residents of al-Labweh, drawing retaliatory fire, the NNA reported.

Tensions run high in Lebanon due to sectarian conflicts, which were exacerbated by the two-year-old Syrian war.
