Charbel speaks on Tyre blast and Beirut serial killings

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel confirmed on Wednesday that Tyre’s blast is not a security related issue; it is rather linked to liquor trade.       

 Speaking on Voice of Lebanon, Charbel urged the people not to link the blasts to attacks against UNIFIL, adding that the judiciary has taken actions against some of those who targeted liquor stores.      

Two near-simultaneous explosions rocked the city of Tyre on Wednesday at dawn.          

The first blast targeted a hotel and a nightclub while the second ripped through a liquor store, resulting in significant material damage.      

Charbel also touched on the serial killings in North Metn, saying that the motive behind these crimes is still unknown. “One of the five brothers was a former inmate in Roumieh prison,” he added.         

ISF arrested on Tuesday 5 brothers suspected in the string of killings that have plagued Beirut and its suburbs since August. The arrests were made after security forces collected evidence from 11 separate murders in recent months.
