Protest against Syrian regime in Tripoli

Around 150 people took to the streets in Tripoli to call for the toppling of the Syrian regime. During the demonstration, protesters burned pictures of PM Najib Mikati.

The protest took place as a response to the call of the Islamic Awakening scholars. Protesters marched from the Qubba mosque to the city’s streets, chanting “let Bashar Assad step down”.

They also raised banners calling for the withdrawal of ambassadors from Syria, Syrian flags of the era of independence (green, white and black with red stars), as well as banners that read “There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God”.

At the end of the march, many protesters burned a picture of Mikati amid religious cheers.
