Sleiman: LAF misconduct should not be exploited

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman praised the efforts exerted by the Lebanese Armed Forces to prevent strife and decrease security tension in line with maintaining civil peace and stability in Lebanon.

In this context, Sleiman said that calls for holding LAF soldiers accountable for errors should not be turned into a political campaign that targets the national role of the military institution, adding that soldiers are deployed in all Lebanese regions and across the borders to maintain Lebanon’s sovereignty and security.
Earlier on Monday, President Sleiman met with LAF Commander General Jean Kahwagi and discussed with him the latest attacks on soldiers as well as the contacts held with Syrian officials regarding the berms in the Qaa region.

Sleiman also met with Caretaker Energy Minister Gebran Bassil who briefed him on the oil exploration process and called for holding an extraordinary governmental session to issue relevant decrees in this regard.
