ISF respond to Human Rights Watch report

The Internal Security Forces Directorate General issued on Monday a statement in response to the report of the Human Rights Watch organization issued on 26-06-2013 over "mistreating and torturing of vulnerable persons practiced inside Lebanese police stations."

In the statement, the Directorate announced that human rights are placed "on top of its list of priorities", condemning the report of the said organization.

The Directorate concluded by saying that the ISF troops are doing their jobs as per the effective rules, adding that such a report "defames the ISF on the national and international levels."

The report by Human Rights Watch focused on the treatment of vulnerable persons including drug users, homosexuals and sex workers inside Lebanese police stations.

It concluded that abuse is so widespread that detainees don’t file complaints and police considers it "normal."
