Higher Defense Council ends session, keeps decisions confidential

The higher Defense Council kept its decisions confidential in accordance with the law, and discussed means to meet the needs of the Lebanese Army and all the security forces, as well as the security events that took place in several regions.

Following the meeting, the Council’s Secretary General Maj. Gen. Mohammad Kheir said that the meeting tackled ways to destroy cannabis crops, calling on the concerned authorities to provide alternative crops for the farmers. He added that the council followed up on the measures taken by the ministries of social affairs and health in the case of the Syrian refugees, after their number had exceeded the capabilities of the Lebanese state.

The Higher Defense Council held on Monday a session at the Baabda Presidential Palace under the chairmanship of President Sleiman and in the presence of caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the concerned parties.

Caretaker Ministers of Defense Fayez Ghosn, Health Ali Hassan Khalil, Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour, Agriculture Hussein Hajj Hassan, Interior Marwan Charbel and Economy Nicolas Nahas were also attending the meeting, as well as the leaders of security and military apparatuses.

Ahead of the meeting, Sleiman held a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and caretaker Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn.
