Protests in Baalbek decrying electricity outages

The residents of the Shikan neighborhood in Baalbek blocked the new road on Thursday in protest of the electricity outage, knowing that the ministry of energy worked on providing the converter but it was not installed due to the electricity workers’ strike.

The residents called for protesting every night and blocking the road until electricity is supplied to the neighborhood.

On the other hand, Baalbek’s residents and students staged a protest outside Baalbek’s Serail, condemning the increase in diesel oil prices.

MP Kamel Rifai said “we will not bow to the policy of neglecting the citizen; this is a preliminary gathering and we will resort to a more massive one if the state does not comply with our demands to decrease prices.”

In turn, Baalbek’s mayor Hashem Othman explained that this is not a political movement, just a call for action, urging the cabinet to heed the people’s demands for they cannot withstand such high prices.
