Mikati to LBCI: My resignation would protect Lebanon

In his interview with Marcel Ghanem on LBCI’s Kalam Ennas on Thursday PM Najib Mikati stressed that Lebanon’s policy is to disassociate itself from the Syrian issue, adding that he refuses the isolation of Syria from the Arab League or the suspension of its membership.

“The whole international community has accepted Lebanon's decision to abstain from voting on the Syrian issue”, he said.

Shifting to Lebanese issues, Ghanem asked the prime minister, “What will happen if Lebanon does not fund the STL, Mikati said: Ask me instead, what will happen if Lebanon funds it. We will have fulfilled commitments, gained U.N. backing on maritime boundaries and support to the Resistance. If Lebanon is strong, the Resistance is strong”.

When pressed further on whether he would resign if the STL funding falls through, he stated, “STL funding will not fail under my mandate, but in the case that the cabinet decides not to fund the STL, my resignation would protect Lebanon from sanctions.

On being accused of treason for working with Hezbollah, Mikati said: “It's all political talk. I am loyal to Lebanon until the end.”
