Excessive acetaminophen use may cause death

When visiting a local pharmacy, anyone can purchase flu and pain medication without the need for doctor’s prescription. However, a study conducted by British researcher Kenneth Simpson for 15 years on patients who excessively abused medication with acetaminophen showed that a large number of them were infected by liver diseases.

In his study, Professor Simpson stressed that constant and excessive use of these medications, which are most commonly used as headache and tooth pain relievers, take their toll on livers at the first stage and on other vital organs later on.

Simpson added that the solution lies in the labeling of acetaminophen as a drug, advising people to use them with moderation. Experts say that people suffering from the following cases should avoid using such a drug:  A local expert said that an individual should take at most eight pills daily if it is only done during a short period of time.

The expert added that the proper solution lies in consulting one’s physician before taking any of these medications or giving them to their children.
