Marathon runs its course in Beirut

On Sunday November 27 at 8 a.m., Marathon Blom Beirut 2011 organized by Beirut Marathon Association kicked off their 9th annual event with the participation of more than 31,000 competitors who took the streets of Beirut by storm. The marathon will also see the participation of Youth and Sports Minister Faisal Karami.

All runners, regardless of category, will take off in Biel and will meet in Martyrs’ square. The course was determined by British national Peter Haier and Moroccan Ahmad Al Tanani, both experts from the European Commission on Sports.

The General Directorate of the ISF announced that cars are banned from parking in the capital and its intersections from 9 p.m. and are prohibited from passing through the capital from 6 a.m. until the end of the marathon.

The ISF called on the citizens to abide by the directives and instructions given by the security forces and respect road signs to preserve the safety of the competitors and to facilitate traffic circulation.
