Forest fire rages in Halat’s Mashnou’a region

A forest fire erupted in the area of Mashnou’a, above Halat north of Beirut Sunday, leaving a trail of charred trees in what was once green forest in its wake.

An eye witness on the site of the blaze told LBCI that firefighters had arrived but were unable so far to put out the fire.

He also said the fire may be the work of arsonists.

“People may have deliberately caused the fire in preparation for the winter season. Tree charcoal is used both as a form of heating and a source of income,” the witness added.
