Mikati says dialogue is sole solution for current situation

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Makati stressed on Friday that dialogue, consensus and compromise are the only means for a solution for the current situation, noting that "victory can only be achieved when the people unite and build a nation ready to host the dreams of the coming generations."

During a ceremony held in honor of the Arab lawyers at the Grand Serail, Mikati pointed out that linking Lebanon’s situation to the developments of the Syrian crisis puts the country at risk, stressing that Lebanon’s interest is served when a political solution is reached in Syria.

Earlier in the day, Mikati reiterated his support to Speaker Nabih Berri's call for dialogue, urging the political parties to reach a common ground in order to protect Lebanon in light of the "dire" circumstances facing the region.

"Speaker Berri is keen on maintaining unity among the Lebanese people and is adamant on upholding constitutional institutions. We will support him for Lebanon's salvation," Mikati said.

This comes after Mikati received a delegation of the Development and Liberation Bloc who briefed him on Speaker Berri's initiative.

Caretaker PM Mikati also held a meeting with the UNIFIL Commander General Paolo Sierra who stressed the need to adopt the dissociation policy and the Baabda Declaration.

On August 31, Speaker Berri proposed to President Michel Sleiman a road map aiming at leading Lebanon out of the current situation through holding a dialogue as soon as possible and controlling the border region with Syria through banning gunmen from crossing the borders and arresting arm smuggling cells.
