LAF to take further precautionary security measures in Beirut

The Army Command issued a communique on Friday whereby it announced that the Lebanese Armed Forces will implement additional precautionary security measures in order to decrease the risk of security breaches across the Lebanese territories, mainly in Beirut.
"The army will conduct intensive patrols and will set up checkpoints to monitor cars and passersby," the statement said.

The measures to be implemented in Beirut include the distribution of identity cards for vehicle owners by city mayors. Private security firms tasked with protecting malls were also granted the permission to inspect vehicles parked within the commercial facility.

Coordination has been underway with clergymen and concerned committees at places of worship in order to debar people from parking their cars near those places, especially on Fridays and Sundays.

In this regard, the army urged the Lebanese people to cooperate with the Internal Security Forces and Beirut municipal police to ban parking in prohibited spots.
