Abou Faour: Syrian refugees will not be deported from Lebanon

Caretaker Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour confirmed Monday the border crossings with Syria will remain open, adding that Syrian refugees currently residing in Lebanon will not be subject to deportation.

"One million three hundred thousand Syrian refugees are currently residing in Lebanon; this comprises 30% of the population," Abou Faour said.

Abou Faour said from Geneva "the International Community should deal with the suffering of the Syrian people," stressing that this matter is an international responsibility.

On another note, Minister Abou Faour said that a study conducted by the World Bank shows that the number of people living below the margin of poverty in Lebanon will increase by 170 thousand persons.
