Lebanese candidate for post of UNESCO DG seeks reforms

Lebanese national Joseph Maïla, who has submitted his candidature for the post of director general of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), stressed that in case he wins the elections set to take place on Friday, he will seek to implement reforms, stressing that he has a new vision for the UNESCO concerning the fields of education and peace.

In an interview with Agence France Presse, Joseph Maïla, who holds the French citizenship, pointed out that “the battle is political and he stands as the reformist candidate”, stressing that such an organization must not be politicized.

Maïla will be running against Djibouti’s ambassador to France Rached Farah and the UNESCO's outgoing Director General Bulgarian Irina Bokava.
