Saleh to LBCI: The ISF-Information Branch kidnapped Youssef Diab

The media official of the Arab Democratic Party Abdul Latif Saleh said on Saturday that “the arrest of Youssef Diab on Friday was barbaric,” considering that “he is kidnapped by the militia of the Information Branch”.

Saleh told LBCI during Nharkom Said that Diab was not summoned as per the law, denouncing the fact the political bureau official Ali Fodda was insulted and beaten by security forces during the mentioned incident.

Saleh called for transferring Diab to the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence Branch, pointing out that sporadic sniping operations are taking place in Tripoli.

Clashes erupted on Friday between Tripoli's Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tebbaneh on the Syria Street – al-Mallouleh axe, on the backdrop of the arrest of Youssef Diab from Jabal Mohsen.
In this regard, sources said that the security forces who were carrying out a raid operation to arrest Diab were subject to gunfire, forcing them to respond.

According to a military source, security forces opened fire at both sides of the conflict leading gunmen to throw hand grenades at the army’s tanks, stressing that no reports of injuries among the military personnel.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.
But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
