STL issues new arrest warrant against Hassan Habib Merhi

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon issued on Monday a new arrest warrant against Hassan Habib Merhi who is accused of being involved in the assassination of Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in 2005.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon reportedly alleges that Hassan Habib Merhi participated in the conspiracy to kill the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri and 21 others, as well as in the attempted homicide of 226 persons.

Other international arrest warrants have been issued against Salim Jamil Ayyash, Mustafa Amine Badreddine, Hussein Hassan Oneissi and Assad Hassan Sabra in their alleged role in the 14 February 2005 attack.

The tentative date for the start of trial of the four accused is scheduled for 13 January 2014.
